What is MOVA technology?

SRL’s intelligent temporary system, Urban64, is the only intelligent temporary traffic system to use MOVA. So, what exactly is MOVA and what are the benefits for road users?

Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation (MOVA) is a dynamic traffic control strategy which adapts green times for unpredictable and heavy traffic flows, improving operational efficiency of junctions. It was developed to overcome some of the problems associated with vehicle actuation (VA) control.

Suitable for most junction types, MOVA works by analysing the varying volumes of traffic on each arm of a junction. In real-time, it then works out what green time to allocate to each approach, determines signal timings and maximises the throughput. 

MOVA is particularly beneficial for:

• Sites with high traffic flow
• Sites with high-speed approaches, like motorway slip roads
• Sites with congestion on >1 approach
• Sites with highly variable traffic flows
