You may have seen the increased number of Speed Indicator Devices (SID) around the Cheshire area.  These devices are a non-threatening way of encouraging drivers to observe the speed limit for the benefit of community safety. If the motorist’s speed is within the speed limit, SID rewards them with a smiley face. If it is above the limit, SID displays a frowning face to remind them that they should slow down. The signs are being used on roads with a speed limit of 40mph or less and seem to be working well.
