Shining the spotlight on Debora McKay
They say that variety is the spice of life and this is certainly true for Debora McKay in her role as regional coordinator. Based at our D4 Birmingham depot, Debora (or Debs as we all know her) joined us in August 2017.
An experienced administrator, she hit the ground running and began providing support for six of our depots – Birmingham, Bristol, South Wales, Exeter, North Wales and Telford – and looking after multiple customers.
“I like to be busy and I thrive on variety, so this role was absolutely perfect for me,” says Debs. “I have nearly 15 years’ experience in admin, so I’m very organised, and I enjoy every aspect of customer service that I’m involved in.”
Super-efficient and with a keen eye for spotting any inaccuracies, Debs is an invaluable member of our team and is a real right-hand woman to Paul Hamilton - our regional manager of the South & Midlands. Debs prepares quotes for her depots, manages timesheets, organises site moves and hires, call-outs and battery exchanges. She also looks after all the stock counts for D4 and helps to run the other depots if they need extra support.
Every day is different
“No two days are the same for me, but that’s what I love about my job,” she says. “It gives me a great sense of achievement to help customers and to be involved with so many depots. I’m proactive and I always respond to customers as quickly as possible – they rely on us to provide the support they need, whenever they need it.
“I had a call late in the afternoon recently from a customer who needed an emergency hire and I was on the case straight away finding the stock and preparing the quote. The order was out the door by 4.45pm and the customer was very happy. I’m proud to offer such high levels of service to our customers – only SRL can deliver this level of support.”
Debs spends a lot of time collating information and our Syrinx professional software solution is invaluable in helping her to create reports and quickly spot any discrepancies.
“The software helps me to produce quotes and various reports, so we know exactly how much equipment we have on hire and what the status of our batteries is,” says Debs. “Syrinx enables us to minimise manual inputting, which of course helps us to boost productivity and save time.”
From Birmingham to Bodmin
Working productively is essential for Debs, particularly as she will be supporting our very latest depot in Bodmin, which is now up and running.
The opening of the Bodmin depot brings SRL’s total number of strategically located depots across the UK to 30. The move has extended our presence in the Cornwall region and provides an enhanced local resource for customers in the area.
“It’s terrific to see SRL expanding into new areas and opening more depots,” Debs adds. “SRL is a fast-moving company and I really enjoy seeing it grow at such a rapid rate. We have a high concentration of depots throughout the UK now, which means customers have even greater support and rapid access to all the SRL products they need.”
Debs dreams of one day retiring to the sea, so, what makes her come to work every day until then? “SRL is a big company, but it still feels like a family. I’m lucky to work in a really close-knit team that’s very supportive of each other. SRL looks after its people and there is a lot of opportunity to develop within the business. I genuinely enjoy coming to work.”
Always looking ahead, Debs is excited to be sharing in the next phase of our growth. “There is plenty of scope for more development and innovation at SRL and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s coming next. I’m proud be on the SRL team and feel privileged to work with some amazing people who are shaping the future of the industry and making SRL the best out there.”
