SRL launches competition to benefit primary schools

SRL are pleased to launch an exciting new competition which gives primary schools in the UK and Ireland the chance to win a share of £24,000.

The competition, which is open to everyone, invites individuals to spot SRL traffic systems on roads in the UK and Ireland, take a photo and submit the location to enter.

Alternatively, children are invited to create their very own masterpiece- a painting, drawing, collage, whatever they like, depicting one of our fabulous traffic signs (just like the illustrations above). Once complete, a photo of the artwork can be submitted by the form on the competition page.

Entrants will be asked to nominate a local primary school which will then be in with a chance of winning a share of the prize money, donated by SRL.

The prize money hopes to support children’s safety through the provision of cycling equipment, tailored to schools’ individual needs. Hundreds of school children across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland are expected to benefit.

This exciting competition aligns with new Government plans announced this Autumn; to get more students and their families physically active as part of a wider plan to create safer streets for cycling and walking.

Richard Tredwin, CEO at SRL Traffic Systems, comments, “These days there are increasing numbers of families choosing alternative methods for the school run, with many choosing cycling. That’s why we want to provide schools with the funds to help them develop children’s essential practical skills.”

SRL has thousands of traffic lights, pedestrian systems, CCTV units and smart signs installed around the UK. To inspire children to also take part in spotting SRL equipment, a line-up of child-friendly characters will front the competition, including Toby the Traffic Light, Usain the Urban64 and Vicki the VMS.

“We encourage everyone to take part in the competition. We believe this is a fun way to encourage children to spot and take notice of traffic systems and their function!”, concludes Richard.

A total of 12 winning schools will be selected at the end of the competition, with each nominated school picking up £2,000 of the prize fund. Entrants from the winning schools will also be entered into a prize draw to win one of four £100 gift cards.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings when taking photos and only to do so if it is safe and legal.

The competition closes on 28th February, 2021.
