Organic growth – it all adds up for SRL
Organic growth is vital for any business and we are delighted to feature in a recent article in Real Deals – the independent voice of private equity – which talks all about the successful organic growth strategies of private equity backed firms.
Real Deal’s Jennifer Forrest interviews John Clarke, investment director at LDC – the UK’s leading regional mid-market private equity house, which has helped SRL Traffic Systems to drive impressive growth over the last 18 months.
LDC first invested in SRL in September 2019 and, since then, we have significantly increased both our turnover and headcount to become the largest manufacturer of traffic lights and provider of equipment as a service in the UK.
Explaining what LDC set out to achieve, John Clarke says: “We wanted to help the management team to enhance SRL’s manufacturing capabilities. When we invested, its manufacturing facility was able to make 80 systems per month. The business has since achieved a fivefold increase in output. The team has increased the depot network, so that the business can be closer to its customers and provide them with the best service through proximity.”
Now, with 30 depots strategically located throughout the UK and another depot soon to open in Bodmin, plus a fleet of 150 vehicles supporting more than 8,000 signals and over 850 bespoke trailers, we have the unmatched infrastructure and capability to meet the demands of our growing customer base.
On helping SRL achieve rapid organic growth, John Clarke says: “We helped the management team implement a whole new sales and marketing strategy, through digital channels, which was completely new for the business. The business is now more outwardly focused, with new customer acquisitions being a priority, whilst ensuring it still maintains a best-in-class service to those existing customers.”
We are incredibly proud of how the business has developed to become a true market leader in mobile intelligent transport systems (ITS) and to be at the very forefront of new technological advances, with new products like our Urban64® temporary traffic light solution, Multiphase Adaptive Detective System (ADS), UTMC, variable message signs (VMS) and CCTV.
And with more exciting new developments on the horizon, the future is certainly looking bright for SRL!
