Supervisor, Daniel Duncan Ensures Depot Runs Like a Charm.
It’s no secret, our strategic nationwide depot network sets us up for success, ensuring we’re only ever a stone’s throw away from our customers. But, for a depot to run efficiently, profitably, and positively, it needs an exceptional team – and that’s just what we’ve got at our newest depot, Aberdeen, in the safe and experienced hands of supervisor, Daniel Duncan.
Getting the Basics Right
Danny has never been someone who rests on his laurels, so it should come as no surprise that our Aberdeen depot continues to go from strength to strength. Now, having been with SRL for nearly six years, Danny has built up an extensive product knowledge. Coupled with his understanding of his depot’s longstanding customers, Danny provides a first-class customer service. “I’m very hands-on and passionate about doing everything we can to support our customers. For me, that’s about getting the basics right. I make sure I take the time to understand the intricacies of our products so that I can answer all my customers’ queries, and proactively support them. When a new product or development is brought to market, I’m always keen to learn about it so I can share the benefits with my customers.”

A Team Effort
Ensuring that all jobs go out on time and fulfilling customer requests as soon as they come in, Danny manages a team of two people, whom he could not do the job without. “I’m really proud to have some of SRL’s best operatives working up here in Scotland,” he said. “We’re a small team, so it’s important we work together cohesively and efficiently.”
“SRL are proud to support customers 24/7, 365 days a year, so it’s certainly never quiet. I’m constantly juggling multiple jobs and arranging the workload for our team. I have a brilliant team, and I know every client is well-looked after, whether it’s myself, Colin or Paul who supports.”
Despite an incredibly challenging schedule, one of Danny’s greatest strengths is his approach to maximising new opportunities. “I take a proactive role in identifying prospects for the depot. Sometimes, our existing customers may simply be unaware of the best solutions for their project or perhaps would benefit from a more complete solution. I also make sure I look out for new opportunities – recently, for example, I identified an opportunity on social media, via a discussion forum. I offered SRL’s services and was pleased we could help.”
Out-the-box Thinking
Indeed, Danny is responsible for SRL’s biggest Instaboom hire to date; working with Hatton Traffic Management to deploy 16 Instabooms at a recycling centre in Aberdeen. A challenging logistic operation, Danny worked closely with colleagues to make this happen. “The barriers were deployed across the bays at the recycling centre – it was a new use for the barriers we’d not seen before, so it was great to collaborate with our technical team closely. When we originally discussed the project, we anticipated six barriers, but upon further consultation, we realised that we’d need 16. This was a real team effort with support from National Hire Desk Manager, Tracy, and Logistics Manager, Steve, not forgetting the lads in the depot.”
With a new, Aberdeen depot opening this summer, Danny has big dreams for his region. And, in conclusion, he adds that he owes a huge amount of thanks to regional manager, Stephen Daly. “Without Stephen’s help, care and unconditional support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
